Beautiful Laya Gasa Trek

The Laya Gasa Trek is one of Bhutan’s most scenic and culturally rich treks. It combines stunning Himalayan landscapes, rare wildlife sightings, and visits to remote mountain villages.

Your journey begins in the green, fertile Paro Valley. The trail climbs steadily to reach the base camps of Mount Chomolhari and Jichu Drake. These towering peaks are among the most beautiful in the entire Himalayan range.

From there, the route leads to Lingshi Dzong, an ancient monastic fortress. You’ll enjoy sweeping views of the Lingshi Valley, the Tserim Kang Glacier, and the wild alpine surroundings. After crossing several high mountain passes, you reach Laya, one of the most isolated settlements in Bhutan.

The Layap people are yak herders and traders. They wear traditional dress, speak their own language, and live a lifestyle untouched by modern life. The campsite above Laya offers fantastic views of the village and surrounding peaks.

At Gasa, you can relax in natural hot springs—a well-earned reward after several days of trekking. The trail then descends through lush forests into Punakha and Wangdue Phodrang, before ending in Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan.

Along the trek, you may spot blue sheep, takin, and Himalayan birds. Some trekkers are lucky enough to see the snow leopard. The trail also includes a visit to the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery, perched high above Paro Valley.

This trek is ideal for adventurers who want to experience both natural beauty and authentic Bhutanese culture.
