His Majesty King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev inaugurated the Promote Nepal-2005 exhibition amid a special ceremony at the City Centre in Doha, Qatar, on June 14, 2005. Her Majesty Queen Komal Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah also graced the ceremony. On the occasion, the King granted audience to Nepali and Qatari businesspersons, reports said.
The fair jointly organised by the Nepali Embassy in Qatar, the Nepal Chamber of Commerce, The Salt Trading Corporation and Nepal Pavilion will run for four days. Varieties of fruits and vegetables, noodles and handicrafts are on display in the exhibition. Money transfer and manpower agencies are also taking part in the exhibition.
Foreign Minister Ramesh Nath Pandey, Foreign Secretary Madhuraman Acharaya and Nepali ambassador to Qatar Shyama Nanda Suman were also present at the function.
This event will continue till June 18, 2005.
The exhibitors include Nepal Tourism Board, International Food Suppliers, Nepal Association of Foreign Investment Agencies, Falcon International Pvt. Ltd., Mustang Overseas Pvt. Ltd., Noor Opportunities Overseas Pvt. Ltd., Himalayan Bank Nepal, K. R. Suppliers, Nepal Chamber of Commerce, Salt Trading Corporation Ltd., Creative Women's Crafts, Himalayan Bamboo Pvt. Ltd., Rastriya Banijya Bank, Carpet and Wool Development Board .
Govt enforces travel agency regulations
His Majesty's Government has approved and enforced the New Travel and Trekking Agency Regulations-2062 B.S. The new regulations has been introduced following timely reforms in the Travel and Trekking Agency Regulations-2037 B.S., says the Tourism Industry Division of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.
The new regulations has dissolved the existing provision whereby travel or trekking agencies had to present four persons including the tour officer and trekking officer and sign a bond for the concerned agency to register a company.
Likewise, the travel agency applying for a license will have to deposit bank guarantee of Rs. 300,000 as security bond while the trekking agency will have to deposit Rs. 200,000. Renewal of the license will cost Rs. 10,000 and the license not renewed for six months after its expiry will be nullified automatically.
Meanwhile, the government is also working to formulate a regulations regarding rafting, says the division.
Nepal at Metro Toronto International Caravan
PashupatiNath Nepali Canadian Culture Centre (PNCCC) with the support of the Nepali Consul General Office in Toronto and the local individuals and organizations based in Canada is representing Nepal for the first time in the 37th Metro Toronto International Caravan(MTIC) 2005. PNCCC will be showcasing a Country Pavilion, a Market Booth, and a Food Booth.
Besides, there will be Nepali cultural programs of dance and music by local artistes. Nepal's famous musical group Sur Sudha will perform its programme on June 25 at Downsview Park. From June 21 through July 4, 2005, the festival will be held under “one roof” in Downsview Park spread around 200,000 square feet of indoor pavilions and 9 acres of outdoor event space. With an expected participation from over 60 countries, the 2 weeks' event is anticipating over 300,000 visitors from around the world. Since 1969, the International Caravan has been promoting tolerance and understanding by celebrating the art, dance, music, folklore, entertainment, food and drink of various participating countries. In addition to these fabulous favorites, this year's festival will feature: International Culture and Tourism Display, International Dance Stage, International Food Court, International Market Bazaar, International Beer Garden, Kid's World, 3 large event stages showcasing local and international artistes, Caravan Cup soccer tournament and Caravan Art Gallery.
According to the new theme “The World Under One Roof”, the International caravan 2005 will be taking an exciting new step by moving pavilions scattered around the city to a consolidated core event in one place.

South East Asia Road Show-2005
Nepal Tourism Board in association with PATA Nepal Chapter and Royal Nepal Airlines has been on a regional marketing campaign 'South East Asia Road Show- 2005' in Thailand and Malaysia from June 16-20, 2005. This marketing campaign has been seen as a necessity to promote Nepal in the South East Asian region to captivate the local as well as international buyers in the regional markets like Thailand, Malaysia and Myanmar etc.
This year the regional marketing campaign is being held in the capital cities of Thailand and Malaysia. For the first, Nepal is participating on International Travel Show (ITS) being held in Bangkok from June 17-19, 2005. International Travel Show (ITS) is the consumer based travel show where the public can source for air tickets, tour packages and travel-related products from all over the world under one roof.
ITS is a one stop shopping travel fair for thousands of Thai consumers and expatriates based in Bangkok looking for holidays and travel packages within and outside Thailand. The actual expected number of consumers is one hundred thousand for which more than 500 international buyers and 100 media persons are taking part in this event.
For ITS, Nepal Tourism Board will have a separate booth where all the participating companies will exhibit their promotional materials and packages. More than 400 international buyers are expected to visit ITS and interact with 435 sellers.
A press conference is being organised on June 17 at Bangkok to provide a real picture of Nepalese tourism to international travel trade and media. Total 12 private companies are participating in this program: Alpine Travel Service, Dharma Adventures, Himalaya Expeditions, Hotel Tayoma, KGH Group of Hotels, Kathmandu Travels and Tours, Natraj Tours and Travels, Nepal Sanctuary Treks, Shangri-La Hotel and Resort, Shanri-La Tours, Sita World Travel(Nepal) and Yeti Travels.
The program is believed to create a positive change in the perception of Nepal in the international arena.
Bikram Neupane- New President of HRA
Mr. Bikram Neupane has been elected as the President of The Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA) for the second time in his life in an election held on June 14, 2005 in Kathmandu.
The newly elected members of his team are Vice President: Mr. Kumar Ranabhat, General Secretary: Mr. Santa Subba, Treasurer: Mr. Dambar Parajuli. Executive members: Mr. Thukten Philip Sherpa, Mr. Devi Bahadur Koirala (DB), Mr. Prithvi Shrestha (having the highest votes. 29 votes), Mr. Surya Ram Sherestha, Mr. Rudra Prasad Pant.
HRA is a voluntary non-profit organization having objectives to provide instant relief and casualties in the Nepal Himalayas due to altitude related sickness. Since its establishment in 1973, the organization has played and playing major roles to prevent deaths from Acute Mountain Sickness that confronts foreign trekkers and local high altitude porters.
HRA has its own permanent aid posts in the Everest region, a place called Pheriche (the gate way to Mt. Everest region) situated at an elevation of at an altitude of 14,343 feet, and in Manang village of Mt. Annapurna region.
Besides, the association is capable to operate various seasonal aid posts in the places like Na village of Rolwaling valley, Gosainkunda of Mt. Langtang region and Gokyo in Mt. Everest region.
