Dolpo is isolated from the rest of Nepal
by high passes to the south, it is also known as Ba-Yul
or the Hidden Land. The entire district was closed to
foreigners until 1989. In 1990 individual trekkers were
allowed into this region but upper Dolpo still remains
subject to high special permit and bureaucratic formalities.Accommodation
and supplies are very poor. A complete organized camping
trek is the only way to explore this region.
