Sunkoshi Adventure Retreat (A 6 days)

Day01: Kathmandu- Pharping- Hattiban
We head towards Hattiban, situated halfway up the southwestern rim of Kathmandu Valley. We visit the monasteries in Pharping and temple to goddess Kali where animals are sacrificed in large number on Saturday and Tuesday.

Day02: Hattiban- Lotusfarm- Bungmati - Lele
The morning rewards us with a clear view of Ganesh Himal and Langtang. We descend to the Bagmati River across a swinging footbridge. We mostly carry our bikes up to the opposite slope to reach the picturesque villages Bungmati and Khokana which are abound with temples. The ride then continues south, climbing in jeep track through forests to the village of Champi and on to the sleepy village of Lele. The descent to Chapagaon village, continuing north offers commanding views of Kathmandu valley. Old forest still surrounds the temple protected by the local belief that to cut even one tree would greatly provoke the deity. After having lunch just beyond the wrathful Vishnu temple, we ride on a jeep track across the southern end of the valley, soon reaching the foot of Bishankhu Narayan temple where Lord Vishnu burnt into ashes the demon Bhasmasur. We ride clockwise around the heavily forested knoll, which is said to have been fertilized by these ancient ashes. Continuing to east on single jeep track but still on a tarmac road pass through Lubhu which is famous for its handmade garments. A little further is the Lotus farm for our overnight lodging.

Day 03 Lotus farm -Nagarkot
After breakfast and short tour of the farm, we ride to the medieval town - Bhaktapur, which has remained, untouched from modern encroachment. The palaces, temples, monastic complexes, wood and metal works still survive in its original form and gives the impression that the whole city is a museum in itself. From Bhaktapur, we head to Changu Narayan Temple along a rough road through rice fields and village houses. Changua Narayan temple dates back to 4th century and remained beyond the touch of Muslim invaders in 24th century. From here, we descend the north side of the ridge along the washed out jeep track to the Manohara River. We will have lunch on the other side of the river and continue north to the village of Sankhu with Bajrajogini temple. Now we climb steeply up through golden rice fields and Tamang farmhouses towards the top of Nagarkot.

Day 04 Nagarkot-Panchkhal -Sunkoshi Adventure Retreat
The day begins with a thrilling descent by single-track trail. We pass through several villages and ancient shrines on our way down the ridge with a continuing backdrop of Himalayan views. It is mostly demanding single track to the village of Lamasai, overlooking the Indrawati River. We join a jeepable road following the Chok khola, a tributary of Indrawati. Soon we reach Panchkhal and the paved but sparsely traveled road to the Tibetan boarder. After a kilometer uphill w e take another spur road to the east. We continue on a 9-km ascent to the top of a long sharp ridge, known as Palanchok and our lodging for the night is at the spectacular Sunkoshi Adventure Retreat.

Day 05: Sunkoshi Adventure Retreat (SAR)- Panchkhal-Dhulikhel
The view of the Mt. GauriShankhar is stunning in the morning. The view of the mist-choked valleys of Indrawati and Sunkoshi rivers far below is just great. From SAR, we go any direction is down; we take the express route off the steep southern face on a switch-baking dingle track. Be careful on the turns! Upon reaching the valley floor' we cut back to the Tibet highway and ride to Dhulikhel for our overnight stay. If you are not exhausted yet, after lunch you can make a trip to Namobuddha and come back to Dhulikhel.
