Manaslu is a fascinating course, which is known as the three peaks of the mountain. It is a well loved trek from Gorkha which visits the remote upstream of Buri Gandaki, crossing snow-covered Larkya La (5135m), the highest point of the route and most dramatic Himalayan pass crossings, descends to the Marsyandi River, making a semi-circular tour around the three peaks of Manaslu. This trek route was officially opened to tourists in 1991and is harder than any other treks in Nepal though the Larkya La pass is not so difficult, but it becomes sometime impassable after November. So it is recommended to do this trek immediately after the monsoon- in Second week of September and October. The trail is rough and steep and it often hangs on a bluff high above the river. Remote and out of reach of rescue facilities or bailing opportunities, the route is not recommendable if you have the tendency towards acrophobia. You must be in good health and have extra days for rest during the trek. Sama before you cross the pass, is ideal for this; you can enjoy strolling about the glacier lake and Pugen Glacier there. The trek is geographically superb and culturally fascinating. You will have very close contact to the Tibetan customs, their dress and speech. This route has very strong Tibetan influence.
A complete organization of the trip with Sherpas, porters, tents and equipment, foodstuff is required. Trekking permit costs USD$ 75 per person per week. It is obligatory to hire a government employee as ‘Liaison Officer’ whose function will be more like an ‘Environmental Officer’. The allowance to the officer is often decided by mutual negotiation which is about $ 300-400. This amount is sharable by the participants.
