Makalu Barun Region

Situating at the north-east part of Nepal Makalu Region got the name from the Mount Makalu 8463m, which is the fifth highest mountain in the world. It is just 22 km from Everest. The amazing views of Himalayan glacier, stunning contrasts of high waterfalls cascade into deep gorges, lashed green forests, and colorful flowers bloom beneath white snow peaks makes it an unique Himalayan bio diversity landscape shelters of 47 different species of orchids, 67 of medicinal herbs, 25 of Nepal’s 30 varieties of rhododendron, 19 of bamboo species, 15 of Oaks, 48 of primrose and 86 species of fodder trees, 400 different types of bird.

Rare spotted wren Babbler and Olive ground warbler are the major attraction also includes the endangered red panda and snow leopard.  Arun River flowing through this park gives shelter to 84 different types of Fishes including Salmon.
