Langtang-Helambu Region

The Langtang -Helambu region is in the north of Kathmandu situated in the central Himalayan region covering the area of Nuwakot, Rasuwa & Sindhupalchowk Districts. It is the nearest trekking region  from Kathmandu valley , the trekking starting point could be reached within an hour at Sundarijal , or  2 hours drive at  Melamchi Pool    or   7 hours  drive at  Dhunche / Syabrubensi.

Three main trek routes; 1) Langtang Valley, 2) Helambu and 3) Gosaikunda Lake cover much of the Langtang and the southern Helambu region. Langtang and Helambu regions are connected through Lauribina La. All routes have the facilities of locally operated hotel/lodge, teahouse, and campgrounds for groups.  Langtang Valley & Helambu offers a choice of moderate to more difficult hiking with duration ranging from 3 days to 3 weeks. Lodges operate year round except during the peak winter ;( Mid Dec /end Jan) when the trails can be blocked.

Langtang and Helambu cover Langtang Valley, Helambu, Ganesh Himal, & Jugal Himal. Gosaikunda Lake ( the secret Lake), Kyanjin Gompa & cheese factory, the glacier view of Tserchori, &   Ganjala Pass, Lauri Bina  passes &  the  smiles of welcoming Sherpini of Helambu are major attraction of  Langtang - Helambu trek. This Langtang Helambu Region also falls on national park in 1976 it is a natural habitat of more than 1000 plants, 150 birds' species and numerous other mammals.

In Langtang region, different species of Rhododendron such as R. arboretum, R. barbatum, R. campanulatum, and R. lepidotum (scrubs) to name a few, form a colorful under story. Tree species such as birch, silver fir, Sorbus microphyla and twisted Rhododendroncampanulatum are found near the tree line. It is here at 4000m Juniper and Rhododendron shrubs (R. Anthopogon) slowly dissolve into expansive alpine grassland meadows.
