The Bhote Kosi – the name implies that this river has its origin in Bhot or Tibet. It has upper sections of grade 5 and 6. Most of the commercially rafted section is from much lower down and has an overall grade of 4 with a couple or so harder rapids that warrant a 4+ or 5-.

It is so near from Kathmandu that you can be on the river the same day as you leave Kathmandu. In fact, this is the only river with such gradients and so near from Kathmandu.

Transportation to the river

The bus journey from Kathamndu takes 3-4 hours and rises up out of the valley and drops down into the Sun kosi valley near Dolalghat (the Sun Kosi put-in). From here the valley is followed upstream and is still called the Sun Kosi. Close to Bahrabise the Sun Kosi turns east and the Bhote Kosi goes north. Close to the 95km  marker the river can be accessed a run. Further upstream the grades increase and they say that if you don't get scared, just keep going upstream and eventually you will!

On the river
When you reach the put in point, you will be amazed to see that the crews have already prepared lunch for you. Then you start the adventures of the day. The day is over at a campsite where the crews will have already reached with the gears and all stuff. May be the dinner is also ready.

The following day, after breakfast, again you are on the thrilling rapids. In the afternoon, you will reach the put out point and you will proceed to Kathmandu.
