Royal Chitwan National Park lies in the southern Terai belt of Nepal, which is in easy access from Kathmandu. It spreads over an area of 932 sq km.

This Park which is a successful research center of nature conservation in south Asia has tropical monsoon climate but you do not have to worry about Maleria as it has been long declared Malaria free. The park maintains three types of vegetation-grassland (20%), Riverine Forest (10%) and Shorea robusta (70%).

The park is abundant with animals such as One-Horned Rhinoceros, Royal Bengal Tiger, Wild Boar, Gaur, Wild Elephant, spotted Deer, Sambar, sloth bear, Leopard, Rhesus and Langoor monkeys, Gharial and Marsh Muggers and many other mammals, reptiles and amphibians. The park also maintains over 460 species of birds including Bengal Frolics, Giant Hornbill, Kingfishers, Egrets etc.

The park offers tourist standard lodging facilities and excursion tours such as elephant rides, canoe trips, jeep safaris, bird watching tours etc. A minimum of 3 days stay is needed to visit the park properly.

The best season to visit the park is spring but autumn and winter are also pleasant.
